How does it work?

The Prince’s Award can be delivered in school time or after school, during a whole year or within a term, and can be tailored to specific requirements. The programme is delivered by SkillForce Instructors – predominantly ex-Services personnel who understand what it takes to build teams, solve problems, succeed at challenges and lead, as well as serve others in highly demanding and pressurised situations.

Instructors not only run the course, but also act as role models and mentors to the young people who attend. All are highly experienced in working with young people and have Enhanced DBS/PVG certification. The Junior Prince’s Award is all about exciting challenges and projects within a climate of encouragement and support, with a focus on service and public-mindedness.

"I now feel like I’m part of the education cog that’s helping to develop these kids into better people. What I like about the SkillForce programme is that it’s not working on the academic side of things, it’s working on life skills which I think is having a massive effect on the kids."
